Parenting a deaf baby
Our little girl has now completed her hearing tests and is severely deaf in both ears. Believe it or not, this is good news, severely deaf means she can have hearing aids! By next week or the week after, W will be able to hear us for the first time since she came Earthside!
W has what’s known as a Team Around Child (TAC), so now we add another member to that, somebody who helps hearing impaired children and their parents. She so far has a community children’s nurse, neuro physiotherapist, speech and language therapist, lactation consultant and her paediatric consultant. Oh, and a hospital nutritionist.
We’re awaiting sight tests but we are fairly sure she’s also visually-impaired but now we know she will have some hearing we’re no longer facing the mammoth challenge of raising a totally deaf-blind child!
Best Christmas present ever, our little girl gets ears!
